My husband and I both work a lot — we work full-time and have our own part-time businesses. We are not big spenders. We try to save, but our expenses just keep going up and up. Rent keeps going up. We’re trying to save for a house downpayment but it’s almost impossible. Everything is going up: gasoline, car insurance, health insurance, electricity, groceries. How are normal working people supposed to survive?

I have not gotten a raise in years. My employer used to have no benefits, but at least now I get 401K, which they contribute to, and health insurance, which they pay part of and I pay part of (varies, but some months I pay up to $400 a month).

My husband works on commission and so he doesn’t get raises. He works as hard as he can but every year makes about the same. How are we supposed to save if our costs keep going up and income stays the same despite all our hard work?

Plus we have tons of medical bills (I have cancer, 2nd time). :(

I have a full -time job. I need to make extra money and willing to do something extra in the evenings or at home. I hear about alot of bogus jobs at home and online. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best part-time jobs? I would even take evening classes for something that I can do or obtain an extra income. Thanks for your advice!

My wife is a stay-at-home mom with our five month old son — certainly a handful. Still, we would like to try to supplement our household income by having her do some kind of part-time job (20 hours a week? 30 hours a week?) where she can telecommute or work from home. She might be overqualified, though — could this be a problem? She has degrees from a top liberal arts college and an Ivy League school, and has worked as both a high school English teacher and psychological/guidance counselor. What types of opportunities are available to someone like her? What can she do? Thanks!

What kind of job should I be looking for if I plan to get an apartment in Augusta, GA where the rent will probably be 550-620 not including utilities? I am starting my 2nd year of college full time. I’m interested in doing ANYTHING, but I’m not sure which kind of part-time jobs pay more than others. All I know is fabric stores are around $7 per hour, and auto receptionists are $7-$10. I have many experiences (the life of a temp lol), so any ideas you throw out here are fine.

How long does the average teenager keep a part-time job? Is 11 months good or should I keep it for longer?
I’m entering college in the fall and might like to change jobs when I start my first semester. I will have had the job for one year at that point. I know that employers like to see a steadiness in previous employment, but is one year good? Also, what is a good way to leave a job without burning any bridges?
Thanks for all the great answers… I’m having trouble deciding which one is best

I don’t have time to find and keep a part-time job, but I need work experience. Everyone asks what experience you’ve had. I’d be happy to have experience in any area involving economics, finance, marketing, or any area of management.

Any ideas?

I have three children at home. I left my career in management at a large corporation when my youngest was born. I really miss working, but don’t want to go back to the hours and stress of what I was doing for the sake of my family. I have a degree in Business and have completed some coursework on my MBA, but I have come across few opportunities in a professional environment that can be done part time. I am willing to go back to school and am fortunate to have the means to do so, but I know going in that I want to learn something I will enjoy and that I can do part time. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding careers that lend themselves well to part time work?

I currently work as a certified nursing assistant. It’s an EXCELLENT job for those who aren’t like me and can stand to change old people’s diapers, help them walk, feed them, and all the other things I need to do. I realize that having my job is more than what I described, however, I want to do something else until I graduate from the medical transcription program. And no, I’m not going to be a nurse, I’ll have to go to more school before I can even consider it and plus I won’t like that any more than my current job. All I want is a part time job that can make ends meet.

Are there any good part-time jobs available in the evenings and weekends that do not involve retail or food service? I need a part-time job to supplement my monthly income, but I would like to stay away from working at the mall or a dining establishment. I also don’t want to be involved with eBay. Suggestions welcome, please.

every weekend and you never have the same schedule. Your current employer isn’t flexible and expects you to put this job first and at the same time any other employer would expect you to put that job first although neither job pays much and hours are part time. Having experience only in retail and most retailers won’t hire you if you won’t work nights and weekends (especially when you apply) but you are already working nights and weekends at the other place. I only have a high school education and don’t have the time or money to get anything more (also have a child that needs my time) I don’t have transport and live in a bad neighborhood so I can’t work a shift that would require me to get out late at night or come home early in the morning. I generally work 2-9 30 2 weekdays and sat and sun but my 3 days off during the week are different every week. Most of the people that I know that work a retail part time job have a regular day job like a nurse or business person.
most people are working the one retail job as part time. Not having a car I have to ride the bus or depend on a coworker for a ride or take a taxi, which can be expensive and if I ended up working too far from home, the taxi might cost more than what i’m making.
not interested in doing offers on the internet. I tried that once and spent an afternoon signing up for stuff and i kept getting messages that i hadn’t completed the offer although I had spent an hour submitted it and all and never saw a penny.
