primary job w2 - 23500
part time job w2 - 4300
claimed 0 on both
When I entered the info from my primary job my refund came out to about 900. After entering the second w2 it dropped to about 600. Does this mean higher income = lower refund? If I paid more taxes shouldn’t I get more back? Last year I only had one job and made about 21000 but my refund was 1100. I did get 600 for the rebate last year but I thought that didn’t have an effect on your refund.

My family now or our long term future? (taking a full time job or staying part time & having family time)?
Filed Under Family | 3 Comments
My husband and I work for the same company. He is full time. I am part time. There is an opening for a full time for me. But the hours are different. My husband works 24 hours (6am-6am) then is off for 48 hours. My hours if I took the full time would be 8am-6pm Monday-Friday.. The 6pm is not a strict time for getting off. If needed I might have to stay over.. I have been working this schedule part time, out of the last two weeks that I have been working the latest I’ve gotten off is 7:30pm. Out of the 10ish shifts, I only have gotten off on time at 6pm maybe 3 times.. Most of them is 6:30pm.
My question is should I take the oppertunity and become full time or pass it up and let someone else have it and go back to part time as needed. (I usually get 10-50 hours as needed just depends on when people take off.. Every day there are 6 people that might take off that I could fill in for)
My husband is against me taking the full time position. He says he’d never see me. He also thinks I’d never see the kids. Even though I would be home every night and off every Saturday and Sunday. (of course the way his schedule is we’d only have every 3rd weekend that he’d be off both saturday and sunday with me.)
The kids stay with my mom when we are both at work, or if he is to tired to take care of them when he comes in after working one of his 24 hour shifts. (some nights he is able to get some sleep and isn’t up all night)
If I took this full time position Mon-Fri. 8am-6pm I would hopefully get switched to my husband’s schedule of 24 on 48off when a position opens. This would be weeks.. or years.. there is no telling.
We really need the extra money that this full time job could secure. We need a house, and to pay off 30k in debt.
If this job was the 24 on 48 off there wouldn’t be any question I would take it in a heart beat and my husband would be happy with it also. There is very slim chance that if I said no that I could still get that schedule.. but usually whom ever is working the “day truck” 8am-6pm schedule gets first pick for any 24hr opening.
I am so confused.. My son is almost 3 years old and my daughter will be one in April. I had a full time job when my son was born.. and I didn’t realize how much I missed out on him growing up till I had my daughter and was home with her alot… BUT we really need a house (we are in a 2 bedroom apartment, and buying a house right now could be done.. but we could barely make our house payment.. credit card bills wouldn’t really go down.. Taking this job would add almost an extra 2000 dollars in a month, thats a $700 house payment, the rest would be put to our credit cards)
What would you guys do.. I am so torn between having time with my family & having the extra income..
If the kids were older I’d do it because the max I could think I would be stuck with these hours are 5years untill I could be on the same shift as my husband… If my kids were older 5 years wouldn’t be anything.. but right now 5 years are the vital span of growing for my children..
I hope I gave enough info… um.. My husband and I will be married 5 years in April.. My Husband is in his 30’s already.. I am 22. His retirement account only has like 5k in it. I have none in mine.. We have none is savings. (Like I said we live paycheck to paycheck)
Thanks for the help!

Do you have to pay taxes on land that was sold as part of an Inheritance?
Filed Under Canada | 3 Comments
I have four brothers. Our father gave us some land that he owned in another state. If we sell the land, which is part of our Inheritance, Do we have to claim the money as income and pay taxes on it? Each brother will receive a little over $15,000.

How can I get my BF to let me pay for dinner, just one time?
Filed Under Marriage & Divorce | 11 Comments
He is such a precious little sweetie, but he INSISTS on paying every time we go out to dinner. I know he doesn’t have that much money (he’s only 17 and has a part time job). I feel bad because I am 22, and I have a steady income from working full time as an executive assistant, but this kid only gets paid barely above minimum wage…I don’t want to burden him. =( When can I pay? He won’t let me…

Are there any legitimate online income opportunities?
Filed Under Other - Careers & Employment | 2 Comments
All I see are advertisements for paid for taking surveys or referral programs. Are there any ways to make a legitimate income (+$60,000 a year) by way of the internet without taking surveys or using referral programs? I am looking for a CAREER opportunity, not a part time pay for maximal effort sorta thing.
Are there any companies that contract out their work via the internet, that pay at least $5,000 a month? Or any other career oriented online, professional paying jobs…
…any ideas are appreciated!

I have been working part-time since 2002. I just started filing taxes last year (2005). I have kind of figured out that I could go to the IRS website, but wanted to know if there is a website that I could use to do them without paying. I used TaxCut last year but they do not allow me to do previous. Also, how could I estimate what my refund is going to be? If I were to fill out everything by hand and mail it in, is there any way that I could receive my refund to my bank account? Thanks in advance!!

I have a 40 hr. a week job 9-5 and I make about $30-35K a year. I live on my own and I have an 8 month old daughter, in a state where I do not know anyone. Daycare fees are KILLING me!!!! I would be just fine if I wasn’t paying 800 a month for daycare…Anywho, I am in the whole per month (maybe 100-300) and I need extra income. I do not know anyone who could watch my daughter (especially for free) for me to go work on the weekends waiting tables or something, but I need a part time job bad….I have awesome admin skills and data entry, but I would need a job that I can take my daughter with me or something! Any advice anyone? Thanks!
Ooops, I meant in the “hole” per month, not whole…lol

What are my rights when I give up full time work to sign on until I get part time work?
Filed Under Law & Ethics | 1 Comment
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help out with my question? I just had a baby and I’m still employed full time although when my maternity leave ends, I want to work part time only. My full time job is over an hour away from home and it would mean spending far too much time away from my baby (we tried 6 years to have him and I can’t have another so I’m determined to make the most of my precious time with him!) I’m not the kind of person to remain unemployed (I love working!) and have never been unemployed before. My question is: If I hand in my notice now, how long will it be until I can sign on? (I realise that I won’t be entitled to anything for a while since it was my choice to resign.) Meantime I will be looking hard for suitable part time work closer to home. How long can a person sign on for these days? (If I don’t manage to find work straight away, I’m wondering how long I’ll be supported? Is it just 6 months? I think someone once told me that or I read it somewhere?) It’s so important to work it all out as I can’t afford to suddenly have no income and only my husband’s. His is not enough to survive on. We have a massive mortgage to pay! I have worked hard all my life (I’m 41) and paid all my taxes so please don’t think I’m looking for long term help/handouts! This is not me! Will the unemployment office still pay me even if I’m only looking for part time work? Well that’s about it. Thanks in advance if you can help out with my questions! (I’m in the UK).

How can I get financed for a vehicle when I only work part-time?
Filed Under Buying & Selling | 2 Comments
I am a 22 year old full-time college student that works part-time and I am in desperate need of a car. Since I am in a competitive program at my college, I am only allowed to work 29 hours per week according to my program’s modifications. I was working at a restaurant making over 2000$ per month, but I could not get financed because I could not prove my income since it was based mostly on tips. The lender told me to get an hourly wage job and to come back. I did that, and now I make considerably less money per month at about 600$ and they wont approve me now because I don’t make enough. I don’t know what to do, I need a car, it must be financed, and I don’t have any family to cosign. If I don’t get a car soon, I won’t even be able to get to work because of the bad winter weather. I would appreciate some advice on my options. Thanks guys!
